Our Extracts
Most of the material used in our research as well as our commercial activities is cultivated and processed by local Maltese farmers and divers. Hundreds of farmers provide this institute with prickly pear fruit from around Malta and the island of Gozo. Local divers work extensively to ensure that the supply of algae needed for our processes is available in the form demanded by our client industries.
Principal areas of commercial use for ICP's extracts are:
- the neutraceutical area (where foods are ingested for their nutritional value in terms of biological activity),
- cosmetics, and
- animal nutrition.
TEX-OE® Natural Prickly Pear (Opundia ficus indica) Fruit Extract
TEX-OE® is a patented natural active extract from a fruit (consumed by millions of people worldwide) that:
1. helps the organism to reduce the harmful effects of stress and
2. assists rapid recovery following stress and exposure to aggressive conditions.
This fruit contains a substance that helps the production of Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs), allowing the organism to recover from physical and physiological stress; that is, it helps the body's own defence mechanism to cope with episodes of stress.
Extract of Padina pavonica (EPP)
The active molecules of the Padina pavonica (AMPP) extract amplify the absorption of calcium by osteoblasts even when cultivated in the presence of "calcium channel inhibitor" or IL-1. Unlike other substances AMPP acts on inflamed cells while even in the presence of metabolizing inhibitors of calcium. Bone density determinations of people who have been taking total extract of Padina pavonica for one year show an improvement in the quality of the mineral bone density.
