The Institute of Cellular Pharmacology

Our Main Research Role
Our main role is to carry out research into the culture, properties and eventual applications of various marine and terrestrial macro and micro alga and plants. A group of commercial divers equipped with the necessary equipment needed to carry out underwater research and culture of marine plants enable the underwater studies. The principal areas of activity include the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic, nutritional and veterinary fields.
Molecular Biology
The areas of research of particular interest are cell biology (in-vitro modelling) molecular biology, molecular purification and identification and animal and human clinical studies. Close collaboration with a number of universities and leading research institutions in Malta, France, England and the United States keeps us in line with current developments in the field. We are very active in the scientific world and have published and presented work in a number of leading medical journals and scientific conferences worldwide.
The Mosta Facility
The facility in Mosta, has the capability of processing on an industrial scale large quantities of vegetal material using freeze drying, solvent extraction coupled with low-pressure distillation and various types of chromatography techniques. It is possible to extract, purify and identify 1 mg of active substance from 1000 Kg of vegetal material.
Research of Ageing Process and Disease
The bulk of the activity of these institutions is centred on the ageing process and ageing disease. In this field two products with various applications have already been put on the market in a number of countries. One product helps the uptake and fixation of calcium and the other increases the rapid synthesis of Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs). These products, their production and applications are patented. They are being used in various fields to improve the quality of life of man and his animals.
